Sixty percent of African youth are looking to leave because unchecked corruption threatens their future, according to a poll of more than 5,600 youngsters in 16 countries released Tuesday. Corruption is seen as the “single greatest hurdle” they face to achieve their own potential and a better life, said the Johannesburg-based Ichikowitz Family Foundation, which commissioned the poll of 5,604 people aged 18 to 24. “Most of all, they don’t believe their governments are doing enough to address this scourge and, because of it, almost 60% are looking to emigrate in the next five years,” it said. The livestock industry is essential for food security and economic development, according to a draft report by the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) that reinforces its defence of practices in the emissions-heavy sector in recent years. Former and current FAO officials and academics have criticised the document, seen by Climate Home News, for pro-industry bias, cherry-picking data and even “disinformation” about the environmental impacts of animal farming. The FAO told Climate Home that a final version of the report – part of an assessment consisting of various documents – would be launched in 2025 and that conclusions should not be drawn…

Unknown to its creators, this song, released in December 2023, foretold a new trend in the Nigerian music industry. Although music sampling is as old as time, hearing newly released songs giving a nod to several tunes that offset the new age of afrobeats in Nigeria is a novelty. The usual spin is a reinvention of Fela Kuti’s sound, Angelique Kidjo’s tunes, and other African artists. Growing up in the 80s meant you heard the original…
