Mariam Wangadya, the Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC), held a meeting with United States (US) Ambassador to Uganda William Popp, focused on enhancing Uganda-US collaboration in the promotion and protection of human rights.
The meeting held at the US Mission in Kampala on Wednesday.

During her visit, Wangadya signed the official condolence book in memory of the late US President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29, 2024.
In her condolence message she said: “On behalf of the UHRC, I extend our deepest condolences on the passing of President Jimmy Carter. His unwavering commitment to human rights, peace, and global justice will continue to inspire. May his legacy guide our shared pursuit of dignity and equality for all.”

Accompanying Chairperson Wangadya were Commissioner Crispin Kaheru, Deputy Director Pauline Nansamba, and UHRC Public Relations Officer Alex Bukumunhe.
She said the visit highlights UHRC’s dedication to the values that President Carter championed and its ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation in advancing human rights.
