Kikuube residents benefit from free medical camp

Date:

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Uganda Limited on Wednesday concluded a two-day free medical camp in Kikuube district.

The camp which provided treatment and screening for close to 400 residents ended with a resounding commitment to community health and well-being.

Themed “Empower Health, Embrace Life,” the initiative brought together a coalition of over 20 medical experts, including specialists from the Chinese Medical Team.

Located at Buhuka Health Centre III, Kyangwali Sub-County, Kikuube district, the camp provided vital healthcare services at no cost to local residents.

The focus was comprehensive, addressing infectious diseases such as malaria, typhoid, and HIV, alongside non-communicable conditions like hypertension and diabetes.

Special emphasis was placed on maternal and child health, with proactive screening for congenital heart diseases, ensuring early intervention and treatment.

In addition to medical care, the initiative prioritised health education, packaging prescribed medications in informative paper bags detailing disease prevention strategies.

This innovative approach not only provided immediate relief but also equipped the community with valuable resources for long-term health maintenance.

Liu Xiangdong, President of CNOOC Uganda Limited, underscored their dedication to enhancing Uganda’s socio-economic landscape and fostering closer China-Uganda relations.

Opio Vincent Alpha, Vice Chairperson for Kikuube district, expressed gratitude for CNOOC’s steadfast support in advancing local healthcare.

He said besides healthcare, CNOOC Uganda Limited continues to enrich community livelihoods through various initiatives, including educational scholarships, sports tournaments, and vocational training programmes.

Wang Jianxun, Counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Department of the Chinese Embassy, highlighted the camp’s alignment with broader initiatives like the One Belt One Road Initiative (sometimes referred to as The New Silk Road) and FOCAC’s “Nine Programmes,” emphasising China’s ongoing commitment to Africa’s development and public health.

“These efforts underscore our commitment to sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for Ugandans,” a statement from CNOOC Uganda Limited,” he added.

“The CNOOC Uganda Limited medical camp stands as a testament to the power of collaborative partnerships in achieving tangible improvements in community health. As CNOOC we remain dedicated to our responsibilities in Uganda, including environmental protection and social welfare, and continues to resonate positively across the region.”

Since receiving a 25-year production license from the government to operate the nearby Kingfisher oil field, CNOOC Uganda Limited has conducted annual medical camps as part of their corporate social responsibility.
