Hoima taxi drivers defeated Muslim Clerics 2-0 to lift this year’s idd al-Fitr Football cup. The match was played at Booma grounds in Hoima City on Monday evening.
Goals scored by Ronald Barongo alias Tadic, a re-known driver in Hoima Taxi Park, all in the second half were enough to seal victory for the drivers.
Barongo’s second goal was a spot kick following a handball by Sheikh Alshadi Muhamudu in the 18 yard box, one minute to added time.
The imam of Hoima town mosque, Sheikh Shwaibu Ntegeka who was the clerics’ goalkeeper had a busy day making numerous saves from the relentless attacking drivers.
The drivers received a trophy, a goat and sh500,000, while the clerics went home with sh500,000, a goat and three balls. Ntegeka was voted man of the match.
The match was sponsored by renowned lawyer Musa Kabega and Hoima town mosque.
Hoima City Deputy Mayor, Sylvia Nalumaga, who presided over the function congratulated Muslims upon peacefully completing the holy month of fasting.
The deputy mayor pledged to support their programmes saying they are a source of unity which is key in the socioeconomic transformation of any society.
Other activities to mark the day included jumping in sacks, blind walking competitions, peeling matooke competition, cycling and motorcycle racing.
Mubarak J, won jumping in sacks, blind walking was won by Mwajuma Nakiyemba, peeling mattoke competition was won by Aisha Nabaka, bicycle cycling-Living Alinda and motorcycling was taken by Brian Tumusiime. All of the participants won prizes as well.
