Hundreds grace Bunyoro Kitara diocese’s Jubilee marathon

Hundreds of participants have graced Bunyoro Kitara diocese’s golden jubilee marathon.

The marathon which was organised by Bunyoro-Kitara Diocese in celebration of 50 years of its existence was flagged off by Rt. Rev Samuel Egesa Bogere, the Bishop of Bukedi Diocese at St. Peters Cathedral Duhaga in Hoima city on Saturday morning.

The marathon held under the theme “Healthy body Healthy mind,” attracted an estimated 400 participants from all walks of life including, women, old and young who participated in the 6km and 2km races.

The activity which fetched sh80m shillings, was organized to raise funds to support the golden jubilee’s celebrations.


The Bishop of Bunyoro-Kitara diocese, Samuel Kahuma who represented Uganda Church Archbishop His Grace Steven Kazimba Mugalu, while flagging off the runners challenged the people to accept Christ as their personal saviour so that they can overcome the earthly challenges they encounter.


Rev. Daniel, the diocesan planning and development officer explained that the money was realised from the sale of kits to the participants and thanked those who bought the kits.


On his part, Bishop Kahuma, hailed the good relationship between his and Bukedi diocese indicating that, the first Bishops of the two dioceses were consecrated on the same day at St. Peters Cathedral Namirembe in Kampala.


The chief mobiliser for the marathon who doubles as Hoima City East Division Member of parliament (MP) Dr. Patrick Mwesigwa Isingoma applauded the participants for turning up in big numbers for the marathon that he said was important in keeping their bodies healthy through exercising.


The function was graced by several dignitaries including the retired Bishop of Bunyoro-kitara Diocese Rt. Rev. Nathan Kyamanywa, Hoima City West Division MP, Dr. Joseph Ruyonga, Hoima City Woman MP Asinansi Nyakato and many others.


Bunyoro Kitara diocese will on Sunday celebrate 50 years of existence since its creation in 1972 and President Yoweri is expected to be the chief guest at the celebrations that will be held at St Peter’s cathedral Duhaga in Hoima city.
