Hundreds of people participated in the Empango (coronation) anniversary run organised by Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom on Thursday morning.

The run, which was initiated in 2015, is one of the activities to mark the 28 coronation anniversary of the Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru.

Unlike the previous marathon, this year’s Empango run was flagged off by the Omuhikirwa (the kingdom prime minister) Andrew Kirungi Byakutaga at Rukurato Hall in Hoima city due to the ill health of the Omukama which has also led to the cancellation of this years’ empango fete.

Empango is marked every June 11, the day the current King ascended the throne.

Donned in sleeveless yellow and white T-shirts emblazoned on Empango Run, the runners run a 10km.

Byakutaga said proceeds from the run will be used to purchase the theater equipment for Kikuube district Health Centre IV.

The premier added that the proceeds realized from the sale of t-shirts are to buy a specialized light and Air conditioner equipment in the theater at a cost of sh20m.

Kikuube district Chairperson, Peter Banura asked the health ministry to upgrade the Kikuube Health Centre IV to a level of a district hospital as the medical specialist is already in place.

Banura and the Kikuube district Woman Member of Parliament Florence Natumanya applauded Omukama and the partners for supporting the health of the new district which was carved out of Hoima in July 2018.

The duo handed over a sh1m contribution.
